According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser.

This book was sad. It was really sad. The plot was good; the structure of the book was good. I actually had to read this book for school. I'm glad I read it because it gave me a perceptive on what people will or might do if not taken care right. It's always good to grow up in a loving and caring and safe environment. Ponyboy, the main character, didn't have any of that. He grew up in poverty and his parents died in a car crash so now he lives with his siblings. This book describes family and friendship; what people will do for each other if they care for each other.

I loved this book. I give it a 4/5!!
